Product Description
An international publishing sensation, Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo combines murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue into one satisfyingly complex and entertainingly atmospheric novel.

Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden's wealthiest families disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed punk prodigy Lisbeth Salander. Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption.

Barclayauctions.com Review
Barclayauctions Best of the Month, September 2008: Once you start The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, there's no turning back. This debut thriller--the first in a trilogy from the late Stieg Larsson--is a serious page-turner rivaling the best of Charlie Huston and Michael Connelly. Mikael Blomkvist, a once-respected financial journalist, watches his professional life rapidly crumble around him. Prospects appear bleak until an unexpected (and unsettling) offer to resurrect his name is extended by an old-school titan of Swedish industry. The catch--and there's always a catch--is that Blomkvist must first spend a year researching a mysterious disappearance that has remained unsolved for nearly four decades. With few other options, he accepts and enlists the help of investigator Lisbeth Salander, a misunderstood genius with a cache of authority issues. Little is as it seems in Larsson's novel, but there is at least one constant: you really don't want to mess with the girl with the dragon tattoo. --Dave Callanan

The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo
The characters in this story are well crafted. Easy to visualize and very interesting. The plots and sub-plots were complicated and enticing. It takes a little time to get into the story as the author builds a history of the plots involved but after that is established you can hardly put the book down through the exciting conclusion.

Since the storyline is placed in Sweden, it was somewhat difficult to identify many of the countryside, corporate entities, villages, etc. but still the book was one of the best I've read in years. A real thriller.

Lisbeth Salanders' the perfect herione!
I have read all three books in the Millenium trilogy, and they're all really entertaining, a real page turner! The main character Lisbeth Salander is an A-social 24-year old who has had many problems with the law and society. She has a photographic memory and is a world-class computer hacker. Lisbeth works when she feels like it, at a company called Milton, where she uses her hacking skills without the knowledge of her boss. The other man character Mikael Blomkvist who is the co-owner of millenium magazine, gets hired to do some undercover work to try and figure out what happened to Harriet Vanger, who has been missing and presumed dead for many years. An unlikely relationship happens between the two main characters when Mikael learns of Salanders unique skills, and hires her to help him find the answer.
There are many twists and turns and it somewhat turns out to be a classic 'who done it' novel. This book kept me guessing the whole way, and the person who you'd least exspect turns out to be the madman..(Isn't it always that way?) Anyways it was hard to stop reading once I started! The two novels after this one are just as well told..(The second book, the most entertaining..) Which all in all makes this trilogy one of the best ever. I must say when I red the titles of these novels, I thought that they would be 'chick books' or maybe even a teenager book..But that's not the case. Although it may appeal to woman and teens as well, it definatly worked for me..A 24-year-old man..
The one thing to me that I didn't care for was since the author was swedish and the book is translated, the names of the places and many characters are almost impossible to pronounce! I had to use my imagination and use my own created names, which worked fine for me.. I absolutely recommend this book, and the other two in the series. The author of these books passed away from a heart attack just after writing the last in this series, which is a shame because after I finished them, I instantly became a fan of Stieg Larsson!

Not for the squeemish
The mystery of the missing granddaughter was well constructed, interesting and very convoluted. All the details of the corporate conflicts, not so much. The portrait of the small Swedish village and its odd assortment of characters was quite good. The writing style was adequate, but certainly would not qualify as literary. Often the wording was awkward which could be the translator rather than the author.

BUT, anyone who is disturbed by vivid and detailed descriptions of extreme cruelty to people and animals, or by deviant sex, should avoid this book. There is a lot of it, and it is gruesome.

The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo
It did take me a while to get into this book. Once I got hooked it was all over!
I couldn't put it down, not predictable. A look into another countires mores.

These are among the best books I have ever read
I do NOT want these people to leave my world. PLEASE have mercy on us readers and publish the 4th book!!! A total page turner. And what a genius Larsson is! He writes about horrible stuff in a palatable way without watering it down.
